India's Bay Talkitec Forays Into Malaysia

By P. Vijian

CHENNAI, July 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysians can soon enjoy downloading Indian songs and movie clips using their 3G mobile phones from an Indian service provider.

Chennai-based Bay Talkitec, a multimedia solutions provider, will introduce its Value Added Service (VAS) to 3G users in Malaysia and Singapore next week to capitalise on the network and the strong consumer base that already exist in these markets.

"We want to tap into Malaysia and Singapore because the 3G platform is already available in these two countries. Our main target will be entertainment and video advertising and marketing," Bay Talkitec co-founder K. Sheker told Bernama.

A market leader in VAS and a pioneer of Interactive Voice Response, the company launched its flagship Video Service Delivery Platform, targeting 2.5G/3G networks in Chennai, yesterday.

In overseas markets, especially in the United States and the Gulf countries, where a large Indian population is concentrated and where 3G is rolled out, the company is investing heavily in marketing to make significant inroads quickly.

"We estimate revenue from VAS services will grow to RM77 million in the next three years. Much of the early revenue will be from overseas markets and we expect 20 to 30 percent of this revenue to be from Malaysia and Singapore," added Sheker.

Bay Talkitec has also signed up with Saimira Access Technologies (part of Pyramid Saimira Group) to provide Singtel users in Singapore video clips of the forthcoming Rajnikanth blockbuster "Kuselan" on their mobile handsets end of this month.

The 15-year-old company also plans to use the third generation technology to promote education for children in remote areas via mobile phones.
