The pooja of P.Vasu's Kuselan the Tamil remake of Malayalam super-hit Katha Parayumbol was conducted today (Friday, March 7) at the old Pillayar Kovil inside AVM studio in Chennai. This spot has been lucky for Rajinikanth, who makes cameo appearance in the film.
Kuselan is being produced by K.Balachandar's Kavithalaya in association with Seven Arts. It is Rajinikanth's attempt to help his mentor KB's concern financially. P.Vasu the director has been trying to expand Rajini's role in the film from a special appearance to a full fledged hero's role.
Rajinikanth himself clarified today at the 'official ' launch: " The real hero of the film is Pasupathi, who is there in 50 percent of the scenes, Vadivel is there in 25 percent while I'm there in the remaining 25 percent. The story works best in this ratio. "Rajinikanth also let out the secret that Vadivel is doing a major role in the film.
A peeved Vasu chipped in to say: "What Jyothika was to Chandramukhi, Rajini is to Kuselan. He is playing the pivotal role around which the film moves." Rajini diplomatically just smiled and moved on. The others in the film Pasupathi, Meena, M.S Bhaskar, music director G.V Prakash were also present on the occasion.
K. Balachander sounded the clapboard and P. Vasu directed a shot of the famous Pillayar taken by cameraman Arvind Krishna to officially launch the shoot of Kuselan which will now start on March 17. It is obvious that Rajinikanth is doing it as a favour for Kavithalaya which played a major role in his metamorphosis as a superstar.
Said Rajinikanth: "Kavthalaya gave me critical acclaim with Netrikannu which made me an actor, Annamalai made me a superstar, while their Muthu got me International popularity as it created a market for me in Japan."
